I have some time away from the sewing machine so hand applique it is for this morning. I started this applique in 2018 and designed it from a small drawing of my uncles'. I think this art is called Formline and is of the Northwest Indiginous tribes, like the Haida, Tlingit and others. Once I get the main applique finished I will applique it to a white background and possible create a formline border. Not sure about that yet but it is in my brain and being thought about. I am not sure how I am going to do the spirit part in the oval center, applique will be challenging, but I could do fusible. Something that I will have to concentrate on. I tend to spend much time thinking things over before I get going on certain aspects of a quilt, and that contemplation can take months to years before I figure it all out. Luckily I have many other projects in motion to work on.

Well that's sure something different to see! I'm not familiar with the design, but I understand the technique(s) you're using. It's great that you spend time contemplating a project. That's a good thing! I, on the other hand, tend to jump into things without thinking, and later regret my choice of fabric, or technique, or something. I need your perspective to rub off on me.
ReplyDeleteFormline art is pretty cool. My uncle was an amazing artist and did many prints in Formline. There's so much meaning to the designs.
DeleteThe original print of this is only about a 5" x 7" in size, so I had to enlarge it quite a bit. Some of the hand applique has been challenging and I am really not sure how to replicate the human figure. But I am not at that point yet ,so more time to think on it.
