I Love this new little pincushion I made from a spare block.
Here is a photo journal of what I did!!!
You can see that I had already used part of this block for a quilted postcard, Notice that there is still space for a quilted bookmark and another postcard! |
I added a little more quilting before I cut the pincushion out. |
Measuring how much space I have for the pincushion and cutting it out below. |
For the back of the pincushion I decided to use a wool remnant I had. I love it too!!! |
For the backing I used some fusible interfacing. This is the best product!! Once fused, it gives the fabric more durability but isn't stiff. You don't even know that it has been added. |
I used this circle as a guide to round the edges. |
All sewn together |
and just need to handstitch the opening. |
Perfect. Not sure if I will keep or give away or put in my Etsy Shop!! |
So, if you have an extra block laying around and you aren't sure what to do with it, practice some free motion quilting first, then make a pincushion, or a quilted bookmark, or a quilted postcard!!! I am sure I could come up with more items to make. An eyeglass holder, a little wallet.!!
Take care, Happy Quilting and I will see you again real soon. Martha
what a good idea I see nothing is wasted in your stitching world
ReplyDeleteHi Margaret!! I have such a hard time throwing any leftover away, so this works perfectly!! Makes a few great little gifts!!!
DeleteWhat a fabulous way to recycle those spare quilt blocks.
ReplyDeleteYour pin cushion looks gorgeous!
Thank You Doreen!! It is fun to upcycle the quilt blocks and make something totally new. We are having a gift exchange in our guild so I am thinking the pincushion would work out great for that!!!
DeleteSo so cute. 'Think I'd have to keep that one for myself.
ReplyDeleteYou're a genius!
ReplyDeleteNo, not a genius!!! Just cannot throw anything out!!! So then you have to come up with a use for all these leftovers.
