I was asked to donate an item for a fund raiser at the beginning of this week. So I started this on Tuesday and finished it up yesterday, the fund raiser is tonight!!!
This is a gorgeous piece of silk, quilted with YLI 100wt silk thread. The batting is Quilters Dream Cotton on the bottom and Wool on the top!!! I love their wool, it is FABULOUS!!!
First I drew ou the spines for the feathers, layered, and pinned |
You can see the spines better on this one |
Then quilted the feathers. Here I am testing the frame I am planning on using for this piece. |
I cannot resist shading with Crayola Crayons!!! |
Not the best light to show you but you can get the idea of what I am doing. |
And now for some small stippling. |
I like to stipple. I think it is great for background work and really allows the feathers to pop out!! |
Almost done!! YAY!!! |
Finished-Friday night!!! |
Close Up |
Saturday morning. I did a little more coloring and then heat set it with a hot iron and a pressing cloth to protect both the iron and the quilt. |
I'm please and I'm hoping it brings in a few dollars for the family!!! |
Take Care, Happy Quilting, and keep those seam rippers sharp!!! Later-Martha

DeleteMartha this is amazingly beautiful! It is sure to be a hit at the fundraiser! I get a kick out of the fact that you use crayons --- I like to enhance fabric from time to time too.
ReplyDeleteHi Lara!! Thank You!! Color crayons are so fun and easy to use and I have lots of them!! And in so many colors!!!
DeleteOMG what an incredible art piece...you are amazing!
ReplyDeleteThank You Anna!! This was a quick one. I think I started on Tuesday as I had just been asked to donate. So I did not spend a lot of time on this. It would be fun to do again but taking my time and not rush it!!!
DeleteSo beautifull quilted. Thanks for telling how you made this lovely wall hanging. I must try silk and the silk thread. Jus a little more practice.
ReplyDeleteLove from Amsterdam.
Thank you!! Silk is really easy to quilt on and the silk thread works great. The sheen from the silk is just awesome, even with crayon on it!!!
DeleteFabulous Martha! Whoever purchases this will have a true treasure.
ReplyDeleteThank you!! I sure hope it went to a good home!!! Not sure if I will hear how it all went. It was fun to make and I think I need to make a few more like this!!!

DeleteI want to acquire the skill of feather quilting! Must work harder on that. This is so beautiful!
ReplyDeleteThank you Judy!! I really enjoy doing feathers, so fun. But I also enjoy just sitting and sketching them!! I think that is the trick to being able to quilt them, lots of paper and pencil time!!
