Meet Kylo Ren from Star Wars
aka
my grandson Cooper
He asked me to make him a Kylo Ren costume so I began the construction this past Saturday. It was a challenge, especially the sleeves made from faux leather and pleated.
I started with a store bought quilted vest
then added a lot more quilting
I also added like a cap over the shoulder and a belt.
After that I made the cape and constructed a faux belt buckle from foam board, twine and paint.
He is super excited with how it turned out!! I am too :^)
Happy New Year's and May the Force be With You!!!

Fantastic costume!! You did a great job with this. I've been to a couple of anime conventions with my son and I'm always in awe of the costumes I see.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much!! This is really my first costume. It turned out pretty good but took a lot of brain power to come up with a plan. Thanks for the visit!!
DeleteWell I'm impressed! Though I have no idea who Kylo Ren is, I guess I know now. :-) What a talent you have for turning a store-bought vest into a such a believable-looking costume. Creativity abounds, especially with that buckle. I am sure your grandson thinks he has the most talented Grandma ever, and rightly so! Well done, Martha!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much Linda! I really had to think hard on this to make it look real. The sleeves were made from a faux leather that I had originally bought for the cape, but then realized it would make great sleeves. So I ended up purchasing some cheap 180" wide black fabric for the cape. And capes are not fun to sew!! Oh my goodness. I am glad to be back to my normal sewing and quilting, but yes, my grandson was very happy with the results!!.
