Bumble Bees *Quilted Postcards and Bookmarks

I know I've told you about the group I belong to on Facebook. We exchange quilted postcards. Sometimes we have a theme and other times no theme. For January the theme was Bumble Bees and Hives.

As my usual course, I had to make it difficult. I figured, if I am going to make one, why not make 4!! I don't know why I do this to myself, but I do!!!

So I ended up with 2 postcards and 2 bookmarks. I think They turned out cute!!!

The following is the course I took putting them together. I did do fusible applique on all four, some Angelina Fiber for the wings, used a black marker on four of the bumbles. I am pretty pleased with them.

One is on it's way to Malaga Spain and the others I may put in my Etsy store. Not sure yet. I may also write up a pattern for them. Time will tell!!!

So here it goes with photos!!! Enjoy.

I also decided to finish this bookmark!! I did get a bit done and I am pleased but I am also taking February off as I have so many things to finish up and I am in the middle of a Tobacco Treatment Specialist Training so I really need to just study a lot!!

These are fun to make!!!
Happy Quilting!!!

  4. Those are fantastic! They should sell well in an etsy store too I think. Do you mail them as they are or put them inside something to keep them clean? I think I've asked before but my mind, well, it's not hitting on all cylinders these days, do you have a longarm or do you quilt on a sewing machine?

    1. Hi Marti, thank you!! I will probably put these in my Etsy store eventually. Right now I am considering writing up instructions for them.
I mail them in a clear envelope to protect them from smudge. And I quilt on my domestic, a Juki TL-98Q. I have a nice big table for it. I have thought about getting a longarm but then I would have to have longarm business and I am not so sure I want to do that. I still work full time and now I am taking on a new path at work, so my quilting needs to be fun and not labor!!!

  5. Your post cards and bookmarks are SEW adorable! I made a quilted bookmark many years ago. Botched it up, but good!! Is that a satin stitch edging that I see? Perhaps, that was my mistake... I attempted a regular fabric binding.

    1. Hi!! Yes, that is a satin stitch. Works perfectly for the edge. I go around a minimum of 4 times to build it up.

  6. Have you completed a tutorial for the bookmarks? I tried a simple one but it got kind of wobby looking by the time I zig zagged around the edges a couple of times.

    1. Hi!! So far I have not done a tutorial on the bookmarks. I make them exactly like the postcards. The one difference is putting the ribbon on the top edge before doing the satin stitch around. If you have questions, just send me an email. Here is the best tutorial for make the postcards. http://quilttotheedge.blogspot.com/2015/08/quilted-postcard-tutorial.html
