Lebanon Oregon Skate Park/ Skate Plaza-SK8 quilt in progress!!!

So, our son has been working on this, here is some information he sent to the fellas and wives of his friends.
TO ALL MY BROTHERS AND SISTERS. I HAVE BEEN WORKING ON THIS PROJECT FOR OVER 3 YEARS NOW. ITS TIME WE ALL GET TOGETHER AND HELP RAISE SOME MONEY FOR THE KIDS TO HELP THEM BUILD THE SKATEPARK. WE ALREADY HAVE AN ACRE OF LAND THAT THE CITY DONATED, NOW ALL WE NEED IS MORE FUNDS TO MAKE THIS HAPPEN. LETS GET THEM OFF THE STREETS AND PUT THEM WHERE ITS SAFE TO PURSUE WHAT THEY LOVE TO DO. THIS EVENT IS SPONSORED BY THE ROAD MAGGOTS, AND PUT ON BY ME AS ONE OF THE SKATEPARK BOARD MEMBERS, ANY DONATIONS WOULD BE MUCH APPRECIATED.

He has been getting A LOT of donations from businesses around the Willamette Valley, SO MANY generous people, it has been amazing!!!

There have also been many who have come forward to volunteer and help and many young people are ready to help make this happen, So very cool!!!!

Drew asked me to make a quilt for the raffle. Here is where is stands at the moment. I have a little less than 3 weeks to get this finished!!!
You can see a few blanks there, no worries, there will be other riding elements added. Like, a skateboard, maybe a skater, maybe the front end of a Harley Davidson Motorcycle??? Just to name a few.

My take on the quilt is: I want it to appeal to many people, including the men and women who ride Harley Davidson's and other bikes. AND, many of started riding bicycles and skateboards before we hopped on a Harley! I had a little red skateboard with metal wheels!! It was fun, but I think I liked me roller skates and my sting ray best!!

I started the design process when I found the fabric on Ebay!!
Perfect for a very cool skater quilt!!
The first design on the left was while my husband and I were out to breakfast, this is my grocery list!! When I got home, I worked on the middle design and the one on the right is the one I am actually using now.
This will be in the top right corner of the quilt and there will be a skateboard instead of a twig and arrows!!

I will post photos when completed!!! Wish us luck with the fund raiser, we need a lot of money to get it built!!!

Take Care, thanks for the visit, Happy Quilting, and keep those scissors sharp!!! Martha

I taught at Quilt Guild today!!

Here's Ginger working with her daughter on my machine. I gave a class on how to make the little quilted boxes.
Remember those from a few months ago?
Here's mine. I used this and some in different sequence of stages to teach with.
The following photos are of guild members working on there little boxes. It was a fun day. Some of the members stayed, took notes, watched us sew and quilt, and then left early to work on theirs at home!!! :^)

Looking good!!
Sewing on buttons!!! LOTS of concentration there!!!
Awesome!!
These are my samples that are going to be finished up tomorrow!!!
It was a fun day. A little nerve racking getting prepared as there has been SO much at home and work occupying my time!! But I got it done and everyone seemed to enjoy themselves. PERFECT DAY!!!

Take care, have a lovely weekend, Happy Quilting, and keep those scissors sharp!!! Martha

Quilted Bookmark

I got a bit of a wild hair when I got home from work on Monday night. I wondered if I could make a bookmark similar to the postcards I've made. So I decided to give it a try. I finished it this morning!!

I found some left over silk fabric
started stitching a feather
added more stitching
and then scribbled in some background stitching. I think chicken scratch is a good name for this stitch!!

chick scratching done
and the back of the little "quilt"
I added some ribbon on the top and edge stitched with a satin stitch. I like it!!! It is stiff because there are a total of 7 layers in this little piece.
I am considering selling it in my Etsy shop, which is not open yet!!! We will see??!!

So there is my first bookmark. It was fun and I'd like to make many many more, I really enjoyed the process!

Take Care, Happy Quilting, and keep those minds sharp!!! Martha

Little Owl Challenge

A friend of mine on Facebook put up a challenge to her artist friends to create this little owl. She does watercolor painting and I am not sure what her other friends mediums are. I decided to do a very small piece with thread and freemotion quilting!!
Stitching, stitching, stitching......................
I copied the photo onto this stabilizer to help with the transfer of the little owl. Cool product!!
Doing the background now.
Background and owl done. I drew a line which I then stitched and then cut about 1/8" away and then put a binding on.
My sewing room after finishing my owl and Stupendous Stitching!! It was a very busy fun day!!!

Well, that's it for now. Take Care, Happy Quilting, and see you soon!!! Be sure to keep those rotary blades sharp or changed!! Martha

Stupendous Stitching-DONE!!

I took a class on Craftsy, Stupendous Stitching, and I am finally done!! Wahoooo!!! So nice to be done with a project.
This was an interesting technique and I actually followed the instructions almost completely!!

I did a lot of quilting that I hadn't planned on doing. I made the mistake of choosing a batting that was way too heavy or too much loft. So it really needed the intense quilting. I will NOT do that again!!!
I also glued it to a foam board which is glued to stretcher bars. I really debated on this one, gluing my little quilt????? Hmmmmmmm, that was a hard one. But I did it and I am OK with it!! :^)

Applying the glue

Before
and after!! Scribble pebbles!!

Good learning process and challenge!! Now on to the next project :^)

Take Care, Happy Quilting and keep those needles sharp!! Martha
