Little Hayden in her daddy's arms just a few hours old!! She came to see us 5 weeks early weighing in at 5 pounds and 2 ounces!!

On her mama's tummy, right after birth. How precious is this?!!!
Hayden and daddy!! She will be spending probably a week in the NICU because she is early. So far so good!!
Our two beautiful Grand-daughters. Alex was born 8 weeks early and is a healthy 18 year old. And now her little cousin Hayden arrives early too!!!  :^)

Looking for one missing quilt block?!!

Seriously!!! How does one lose a block? I did and I am still baffled!!!
This is what I started with at home, 25 blocks ready to trim and piece together.
And this is what I ended up with at our 4th Saturday sew-in. One missing block!! WHAT??

Indeed, it is really missing. I cannot find it anywhere!! How wierd is that? So I did piece another and now I am in the process of putting the blocks together. Strange!!!!

I still need to purchase the backing, forgot all about that necessary item :^) Oh well, life goes on.

Take Care, Happy Quilting, keep an eye on your blocks as they like to hide!! and keep those needles sharp!! Martha

Grand-children's quilt blocks-continued

Yesterday I worked hard at cutting enough squares for both quilts!! And here are all the squares, whew!!
Here are the turquoise prints I found. Some were already in my stash.
And here are the grays. One was already in the stash and the others I purchased on Thursday.
Here's another gray that was in my stash. I didn't have much, but that's ok as the quilts will be semi scrappy looking!! I must say, I do love these colors together!!! Very soothing.
I also got all the 4-patch blocks sewn together yesterday and this morning. So now I need to cut them up and sew them back together!! I am hoping to be done with that part by Thursday night of this week. The baby shower is on the 31st and I would love to have these both done!!

So I spent a good portion of my day today working on my husbands computer. It hasn't been printing, and the computer and printer are new. New in the last 6 months. So frustrating!!!! Well, after a couple of hours figuring and refiguring, I got it to work!!! Thank-goodness. I also made it easier for him to get into his email, so I am hoping for a happy camper when he gets home this afternoon. Now I need to get back to sewing!!!

Oh, I also finished a test block for QM Magazine. I am kind of hoping it is my last because I have so many of my own things that I need to get finished!!!

That's it for now. I will show you my progress in a few days!!!

Take care all, Happy Quilting and keep those needles sharp!! Martha

Sneak Peek

I started working on a baby quilt for our grand-daughter due the end of September. Her name is Hayden Drew. So cute!!!
Her mom has picked out the colors of gray, turquoise, purple and lavender. So I decided to make her quilt out of the gray and turquoise and make her big brother a matching quilt. Only larger!!!

I had a chat with Cooper about the quilts, and he agreed that it was a good idea :^)

I am starting with 5" blocks for Hayden and 7" blocks for Cooper. I will use all the same fabrics for both quilts. Turquoise and gray can be for girls or boys, perfect combination!!!

This is the disappearing 4 patch. I googled it and found may tutorials showing the instructions.

This is how I am doing it:
Lay out my squares to sew one seam down the middle
Sew the second seam, but pin those seams together so they match almost perfect.
Press seams open, less bulk that way.
Then cut 1" away from the center seam on all sides as above.
Change the position of the center strip pieces. The bottom set goes to the top, the top to the bottom, the left goes to the right side and the right to the left as you can see.
Then stitch it  back together!! Easy enough!! And very cool looking.

I now need to go to the quilt shop for more grays and turquoise. I do not have enough, nor do I have a backing for these two quilts. Something soft is in order!!!

Take care friends, Happy Quilting and keep that mind sharp!!! Martha

Jane's Little School House-3 more blocks done!!

When we got home from vacation, I got all the school house block pieces cut and stacked to help the assembly process of the blocks!! Then I got to work finishing the ones I had done while away.
This is one of the Dear Jane blocks that I appliqued while in Arizona!!
And here is the other Dear Jane block that I did while on vacation!!! This is a bright one and will probably end up in the middle of the quilt!
I finished this Dear Jane block yesterday  and.....
Here it is set in the school house block!!! Cute!!!
This quilt needs to be done by the end of September as that is when our quilt show is!!! Our challenge is doing a house or school house block, so this will be my entry!!! I will be dedicating this quilt to all the little girls in the world who want to go to school and meet great challenges doing so because of the adults in their lives and countries. To the teachers also who risk their own lives teaching them!!
Have a great day, Happy Quilting and keep those needles sharp!!! Martha

J-10 Chieko's Cally Lily-block #2

I got the second block done, this one is for my Jane's Little School quilt.

I was able to use my glue stick method on these, so it went a little quicker!!

After trimming, I use the glue stick and get the points down, then I do the edges.

This was much quicker than the first block!!! When I get home from Phoenix I'll get the school house blocks pieced, then just five more to go!!!

Take care, Happy Quilting, and keep those needles sharp!! Martha
