Look what I found!!

I found this in my moms things.

Still in the box and never been used!!

In all the original wrappings

Along with the instructions for using!!

How cool is this!!??

It's a beautiful iron :^)

And extremely heavy!!

Of course I had to try it out!!! This thing gets hot! REALLY HOT!! It worked perfect for the cotton fabric. Notice that this is not a steam iron!! So it uses the heat and weight to press.
It was so hot that when I tried ironing a shirt with 40% polyester in it, I ended up with melty gunk on the iron!!
So I may be using this for decor only.
It was made in the 40's or 50's and was owned by my mom or grandmother. I really don't know for sure, but it is a treasure and I will keep it.
It makes me smile!!! And if I decide to use it to iron clothes with, I shall grow muscles in my arms!!!

Take care everyone, Happy Quilting, and keep those needles sharp and changed (every 8 hours)

  1. What a treasure! Reminds me of my mom's iron - no steam and heavy! I'll bet it would do a great job with a linen tablecloth with the heat and weight.

  2. Oh gosh that is a lucky find! I would love that. Might want to get some of this silicone finger covers so you don't burn yourself over and over. :)

  3. Awesome find! Perfect for HST. It probably works much better than the new, refashioned no steam iron that I just purchased.

  4. That is just the kind of iron I love! I don't like to use steam because my iron would be incontinent (Ricky Tims' word). It is the auto shut off that is the culprit! I use my old no steam iron only for cotton quilting fabrics and have another 'modern' iron for clothing.

    1. Judith, that is a fabulous idea!! I think I will keep the new find at my sewing machine pressing station and put the other one with the ironing board and clothes pressing station!! I too tired of the auto off, seems like I am always waiting for the iron to reheat!! Have a great weekend and thanks for the visit!!! Martha
